Bullpen implodes for Nats after Gorzelanny’s injury
The Washington Nationals saw its once dangerous bullpen implode on Sunday afternoon after starter Tom Gorzelanny left in the 3rd inning with an ankle injury. The Nats lost 9-8 to the Atlanta Braves in a rubber match between the two NL East foes. All four relievers used for Washington allowed at least one run.
Gorzelanny scored on a Roger Bernadina triple, but twisted his right ankle...

Nats waste Gorzelanny gem in shutout loss
Tom Gorzelanny dazzled in his start for the Washington Nationals on Saturday afternoon, but his offense mustered zero runs and two hits in a 3-0 loss to the White Sox. This solid outing was much needed for the lefty (see bashing rant) after being erratic before landing on the disabled list and missing a month. Unfortunately for him, allowing one run was enough to earn his 6th loss...

The crowded derby for two open rotation spots in spring training supposedly will include second-year southpaw James Russell. But the odds of 1980s-vintage closer Jeff Russell’s son beating out Andrew Cashner...

Will there be a Tom Gorzelanny Bobblehead Night at Nationals Park?
(Yes, it appears as if this Tom Gorzelanny bobblehead is flipping the bird. Image via Deadspin.)
And so, Mike Rizzo's search for that elusive "top of the rotation" starter ended yesterday with the acquisition of a middle of the rotation starter. And we're not complaining -- the more the merrier.
Yesterday, the Nationals traded...

Prospects in the Gorzelanny Trade
Tom Gorzelanny is on his way to Washington where he should have a chance to compete for a slot in the starting rotation. Coming back to the Cubs are three pretty interesting looking prospects. The players coming back to the Cubs aren’t the same calibre of prospect as Hak-Ju Lee, who the Cubs sent to Tampa in the Garza deal, but that doesn’t make it a bad trade. This is simply...
