FanFest Notes & Thoughts: Tommy Hunter
During Orioles FanFest, pitcher Tommy Hunter spoke with the media for a few minutes, and I’ll say that he’s one of the funnier, candid and more laid back athletes I’ve met on the team. It was certainly a delight to interview him, and he seemed very much ready for camp to open up towards the middle of this month. As we know, Tommy is a big boy – as he is currently listed...

2011 Orioles Retrospective: Tommy Hunter
Tommy Hunter started out the year as a member of the Texas Rangers - well, their Triple-A affiliate anyway. When he was called up to the majors at the beginning of July, he was used exclusively as a reliever despite his past experience starting. The Orioles acquired him right before the trade deadline (with Chris Davis) in return for Koji Uehara. I didn't like the move - initially...

Tommy Hunter To The ‘Pen
The Texas Rangers have made an interesting decision in attempt to help their bullpen, they’ll be moving injured starter Tommy Hunter out of the rotation. Manager Ron Washington says the move is exploratory right now, which makes sense since it is taking place in the minor leagues.
Right-hander Tommy Hunter, currently on a rehab assignment, will pitch one inning in relief...

ST25: Rangers win slugfest 15-13, lose Hunter
This was the first of two games played on Thursday. Was a split squad deal with one game being during the day, and the other during the night.
This was another of those no pitching games. I talk about that lot. This would be a story where you wouldn't write about the pitching at all, since there was virtually none of it good. Today's no exception, and there was one extra...

The Real Tommy Hunter
There's an old, albeit broadly applicable saying out there that goes something like "first impressions are the most important impressions." While this axiom may indeed ring true in many of life's passing social situations, it strikes me that it doesn't extend to the baseball realm quite so well. Since the conclusion of the World Series, I've stumbled upon...

The Thing About Tommy Hunter
If acknowledging -- and then working to address -- our personal weaknesses is the single most effective way of getting better at something, then allow me to employ that strategy on myself right now: When it comes to constructing a baseball roster, I'm an idealist at heart. I want a potent blend of youth, talent and upside at every position, even when I know that it's completely...
