Different part of back bothering Venable
Outfielder Will Venable's back is giving him fits again, though he's encouraged that the spot that's currently bothering him is a different from where he had back spasms in August.

INCOMING! Will Venable Leadoff HR Drops Padres Dude
How many of you get to a September game a couple of pitches too late, grab a beer, maybe a dog and then head for your outfield seat? Happens all the time. So imagine our glee this morning when this video crosses our email inbox. Keith in Oakland couldn’t believe his eyes. “How awful would it be to lose your father to a home run ball off the temple,” he writes. Um...

Fan not paying attention drilled by home run ball
If I have learned anything from watching Major League Baseball games is to be alert when a game is going on.Sadly, one baseball fan in San Diego wasn't paying too much attention when Will Venable hit a home run which hit the fan square in the neck:

Was Will Venable Focusing on the Right Things?
Padres outfielder Will Venable was sent to the minor leagues today. Amazingly for a 28-year old with a .224/.293/.291 line and a neutral-looking .300 BABIP, it’s actually worth wondering if he deserved this fate. His case may help us understand something about focus and areas of improvement — because Will Venable has actually made some improvements this year, but perhaps...

Padres demote leadoff batter Venable to Triple-A
The San Diego Padres have demoted slumping leadoff hitter Will Venable to Triple-A Tucson.
Venable was hitting just .224 with no homers in 134 at-bats. He was one of a handful of players the Padres were counting on to have a solid season offensively.
Manager Bud Black says it's better for Venable to work on his hitting in the minors rather than in big league games.

Will Venable Hits the DL, Aaron Cunningham Back Up From Portland
Well, that didn’t last long.
A day after Matt Stairs’ activation sent Aaron Cunningham from the Padres to Triple-A Portland, the young outfielder was recalled in place of right fielder Will Venable, who was placed on the 15-day DL with a strained lower back.
Cunningham was 2-for-2 with a double in his lone Triple-A game, raising his batting line at that level to .247...

Good reason to be patient with Venable
Our man Corey Brock wrote an article the other day about the Padres being patient with youngsters Kyle Blanks and Will Venable. We discussed Blanks the other day, so let’s concentrate on Venable.
So far he’s hitting .233/.307/.473. He’s striking out a lot (33% K rate) and the .307 OBP isn’t great, but he’s providing a lot of power, and his overall production has been fine...

Venable’s Early-Season Power Surge
Last year, Will Venable hit .256/.323/.440 with 12 homers in 95 games.
He appeared to be more of a gap power guy with possible 20-HR power (in the Andre Ethier mold) than a real power threat.
Early this season, however, Venable is off to a huge start; he’s already clubbed three homers and is slugging over .600.
However, [...]
