Reds Acquire Valdez, Avoid Arbitration With Masset
If the signing of utility man Willie Harris on Monday wasn't enough to secure depth in the Cincinnati infield, Wednesday's deal sure did.
Late Wednesday afternoon, the Redlegs pulled the trigger on a trade that landed utility infielder Wilson Vadlez from the Phillies in exchange for left-handed reliever Jeremy Horst.
Valdez appeared in 99 games for the NL East Champs...

Utility player Willie Harris has agreed to a minor league deal with the Cincinnati Reds, who invited him to spring training with a chance to win a job off the bench.

Cincy Adds Roster Depth, Signs Harris
Cincy addressed their last remaining need on their offseason wish list with the signing of free agent utility man Willie Harris on Monday. The two sides agreed on a minor league deal which includes a non-roster invite to the club's Spring Training in Goodyear, Arizona. Mets unlikely to re-sign Willie Harris
The Mets “aren’t likely to attempt to re-sign OF Willie Harris,” tweets Andy Martino of the Daily News.
In October, Martino said a team source indicated that Harris and Scott Hairston would not be resigned until much later in the off-season, “if they are resigned at all.”
However, Martino added Harris “became a clubhouse leader and one of manager Terry Collins’...

Should the Mets re-sign Willie Harris?
With all three of the Mets’ starting outfielders on the shelf, Willie Harris has received regular playing time the final week-plus of the season. In fact, Harris is tied with Jose Reyes for most games played for the 2011 Mets, something that no one saw coming when he inked a minor league deal back in January. It has been a nice bounce-back season for the veteran, which brings...

Should Mets drop Willie Harris despite his hot streak?
Last year Willie Harris posted a .653 OPS (a drop of 104 points from a year ago) and it looked like his career was in jeopardy. He hooked on with the Mets and got off to a hot start in 2011. But by the third week of May, Harris was back to his 2010 ways, as he had a .203/.308/.304 line and a demotion/release seemed imminent.
But the Mets ran into some injuries – or is that the...

Terrible news to say the least. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Willie Harris, his wife, and their entire family.

Harris to make the team...
As expected Willie Harris has made the team, making the only positional question whether the team can find room for Nick Evans. Harris is a versatile player who can play all three outfield positions and second base. He has decent power and should have an improved BA now that Adam Dunn isn't prompting him to swing for the fences ( last year in Washington). The Mets are said...

Is Willie Harris a good bench option for Mets?
The Mets will likely carry five outfielders on their Opening Day roster and four of them are set in Bay, Beltran, Pagan and Hairston. The Mets signed Willie Harris to a minor league deal and at the time it seemed as much to keep him off other teams, as Harris has a history of making big plays against the Mets, than it was to fill the team’s final outfield spot.
So, what does...

Mets Make Harris Signing Official
While it was widely reported this past Friday that the Mets had signed veteran outfielder Willie Harris to a minor league deal, the team made it official Monday morning.
