Astros sign Zach Duke
The Houston Astros announced that they have signed Zach Duke to a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training.
Last season with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Duke went 3-4 with a 4.93 era while averaging 3.8 k/9, his worst since 2007 with the Pirates(3.4 k/9).

Zach Duke Interview: I Owe The Pirates A Complete Game Shutout
Zach Duke has escaped Pittsburgh. Now it's time for him to tell jokes.
Former Pittsburgh Pirate Zach Duke sounds like a pretty happy man in this interview. The new Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zach Duke talks about his strong 2005 season and the expectations placed on him.
“I’m pretty bummed that I could never duplicate that, have a 1.8 ERA…my wife is...

Pirates trade Zach Duke, do other things over holiday
Sorry I haven't posted much the last couple days; I've been enjoying the down time at home for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Pirates haven't relaxed much, though, this week. For a holiday week, they've been downright busy.
The biggest news is the Zach Duke trade. Duke was already more or less gone after being DFA'd, but getting even a player to be named for him...

Pirates Trade Duke to Arizona
The Zach Duke era with the Pittsburgh Pirates is officially over. After designating the left handed starter for assignment on Friday, the Pirates traded Duke to the Arizona Diamondbacks for a player to be named later.
According to Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks aren't likely to tender an arbitration offer to Duke, and basically traded for him to try and...

Duke Traded: Our Five Favorite Duke Drubbings From 2010
Zach Duke allowed 1168 hits in 964.1 innings pitched in his Pirates career
Zach Duke was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for the infamous player to be named later. Some believe Duke will be hard to replace on the Pirates staff. We don’t. The left hander is just too hittable.
As a Pirates fan, we have come to appreciate a Pirates pitcher imploding. A Pirates pitcher...

Zach Duke traded to Arizona for PTBNL
That’s a player-to-be-named-later, for those of you who haven’t followed countless trades the Pirates have made over the last decade.
The PTBNL will hardly be anything valuable, as Arizona has no reason to give up much for a guy that was just designated for assignment and would be on the open market in a matter of days. This just means that some other team is indeed willing to...

Altoona Curve lose game 1 in 10th; Bucs, Duke, mauled in NY
Just got finished listening to the Curve playoff game and my first thought was – why let Morris pitch? He came out of the pen without any command throwing 7 of his first 10 pitches as balls, and one of those was against a batter trying to sacrifice bunt. Moskos had just thrown a ten-pitch 9th so I would have let him come back out in the 10th myself.
But anyway.
The Curve lost...

Zach Duke and the 2011 Rotation
Duke could be non-tendered after the season.
Going in to the 2009 season, the pitcher I least trusted in the rotation was Zach Duke. Duke ended up surprising a lot of people with his 2009 performance, putting up a 4.06 ERA in 213 innings. Heading in to 2010, that performance was enough to have Duke mentioned as one of the top pitchers in the Pirates' rotation, which led to a...

The underrated Zach Duke
Zach Duke - Newscom
With Zach Duke posting a 5.32 ERA and preparing for his third and final year of arbitration, some fans have called for the Pirates to cut ties with the veteran starter after the season. Their position is that he should be traded to the highest bidder or non-tendered if there are no adequate offers, freeing those dollars for a potential free agent pitcher. This...
