Deck McGuire may have to wait for major league debut

When the Toronto Blue Jays drafted Deck McGuire 11th overall in the 2010 draft, the Georgia Tech ace was suddenly the future of the organization. The very first draft pick under the reign of Alex Anthopoulos as General Manager, McGuire was heralded as a fixture of the starting rotation for years to come. The college junior would settle and rise through the farm-system quickly, with...

2012 Positional Rankings: RH Starters

Nearing the end of the ranking process, I'm looking forward to being able to post my Top prospect master list the week of Christmas. This position is clearly the strength of the organization, with not only really good talent at the top but reasonably high grade prospects further down the list. 1. Aaron Sanchez (7/1/92) - Sanchez is no secret to anyone, electric stuff and a need...

McGuire Learning To Control His Emotions

MANCHESTER, NH - After sixteen starts in 2012 for the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, it is safe to say that Deck McGuire has not lived up to the expectations of a first round draft pick. His coaches say that he knows it, and that knowledge that he carries has often crept into his psyche when trying to bounce back from bad innings.

McGuire Needs To Stay On Top

Manchester, N.H- Deck McGuire has only pitched in two games this season for New Hampshire, but this Wednesday night’s start needs to be a turning point for the young right-hander. With an 0-2 record and an ERA soaring at 9.90, McGuire has to start performing at a higher level if he wants to prove to the Blue Jays that he is worth the 11th overall draft pick they spent on him in 2010.

Pirates bring out boom sticks in loss to Jays

Final: Blue Jays 8, Pirates 6 WP: Deck McGuire (1-0, 0.00 ERA) LP: Jeff Locke (0-1, 13.50 ERA) SV: Robert Coello (1, 9.00 ERA) This game is a perfect example why winning or losing Spring Training games do not matter. The Bucs lost this one, but there are a lot of really good things to take out of it. Pedro Alvarez, after starting off the spring 0 for 5, went 2 for 3 with an opposite...

Ready for Prime Time

Deck McGuire did it. So did Jed Bradley. So did Mark Pope. What is it they all have in common? If you're thinking all three were star pitchers at Georgia Tech who got drafted and are now playing professionally, you'd be right, but they share something else.

McGuire Tightening Up Number Two

Deck McGuire, last year's first round pick, had a very good professional debut season in 2011. He went a combined 9-5 with a 3.02 ERA and nearly struck out a batter per inning pitched between high-A Dunedin and Double-A New Hampshire. He did all of that without a truly effective curveball too. An oblique injury towards the tail end of the year forced him to focus on the curve at Instructs.
