Right-hander Lance Lynn, an important part of the St. Louis Cardinals' postseason puzzle last year, was earmarked to be the Cardinals' eighth-inning pitcher this year, setting up right-hander Jason Motte. Lynn is missed in that role as the Cardinals' bullpen has blown eight saves and suffered eight losses in 11 decisions, but he is needed elsewhere. When right-hander...

LaHair Wins Motte’s 12-Pitch Battle
With a two-out, two-run walk-off single off St. Louis closer Jason Motte, the Cubs’ Joe Mather became Monday night’s unlikeliest hero. Motte can't hold off Cubs in ninth
Former Cardinals utilityman Joe Mather delivered the game-winning, two-run single off Cardinals right-hander Jason Motte to give the Chicago Cubs a 3-2 win over the Cardinals Monday night. But a bigger at-bat might have been the 12-pitch (six foul balls at 3-2) by pinch-hitter Bryan LaHair that resulted in a one-out walk.

Motte remains focused on helping team win
ST. LOUIS - New Cardinals manager Mike Matheny has no problem doing what former skipper Tony La Russa refrained from.
Yes, Jason Motte is indeed the closer.
"Jason has certainly positioned himself as we head into Spring Training as the closer," Matheny said.
Tell that to Motte and he'll joke back with, "Watch your mouth."
The mini-controversy was a source...
