DETROIT -- The Tigers had great luck with a Houston Astros castoff last season so they decided to take a chance on another one.
The Astros waived outfielder J.D. Martinez last year and the Tigers immediately signed him.
After Martinez destroyed Triple-A pitching with the Toledo Mud Hens, hitting 10 home runs and driving in 22 runs in 17 games, the Tigers called him up.
DETROIT (AP) The Detroit Tigers have claimed right-handed reliever Josh Zeid on waivers from the Houston Astros.
The Tigers made the move Thursday.
The 27-year-old Zeid was 0-0 with a 6.97 ERA in 23 games for the Astros. He went on the disabled list in late July and needed season-ending surgery on both feet because of a painful condition called bilateral sesamoiditis.

One area of continued concern is the pitching staff which is 26th in the Major Leagues in ERA. Injuries have not helped matters, as six pitchers are currently on the DL. One pitcher, Josh Zeid has been transferred to the 60-day DL and is possibly...

Footer also reports that Chris...
The Houston Astros fell to the Miami Marlins on Saturday by the score of 7-3, dropping the Astros to 42-62 on the season. Although 22 1/2 games back in the American League West, the Astros have improved somewhat over their 51-win season a year ago. The pitching staff has struggled, though, to an ERA of 4.46. Injuries have not helped and now a fourth reliever is on the disabled list...
Houston Astros right-hander Josh Zeid isn't a rookie, but the veterans still enjoy making him pay his dues as he enters his second season with the club.
During an in-game interview against the Cardinals on Sunday, Zeid answered questions while sunflower seeds rained on him.
And despite the distractions, he managed to stay cool ... literally.
Zeid didn't flinch when one of his teammates...
