WEST SACRAMENTO - Oakland A's 2004 first-round pick Landon Powell has overcome several hardships during his career, including three knee injuries and a diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis. However, none of those compared to what he and his family dealt with this offseason. This weekend, he returned to Sacramento as a visiting player and reflected on loss, growth and his role with his new team.

The 5-month-old daughter of New York Mets catcher Landon Powell has died.
The family said on its Facebook page that Izzy Powell died Friday night of an immune disease that attacked her liver and bone marrow.
The family wrote in a post Saturday that she ''fought until the end'' and ''her life served a great purpose in her short 5 months on this earth.'...

Catcher Landon Powell, whom the Mets recently signed to a Minor League contract, lost his infant daughter to a fatal liver condition last night.
Powell’s baby daughter, Izzy, was born prematurely and was diagnosed with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH).
