Tim Alderson’s career with the Pirates ended today with a trade for Russ Canzler.
The Tim Alderson/Russ Canzler trade wasn’t exactly a blockbuster deal. It was a marginal trade, and the type of deal you’d expect in early-to-mid July as the hot stove season starts to heat up. The Pirates sent away a guy who profiled as a potential middle reliever, and who wouldn’t have even...
The Pirates first move of Trade Deadline Season, they sent minor league reliever Tim Alderson to the Orioles today in return for Four Corners guy Russ Canzler. Canzler is your protypical Quadruple-A guy; he never really hit well for a corner infielder/outfielder in the Cubs' system until he was way too old for his level, then he had a nice year with Tampa's Triple-A affiliate...
The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired 1B/OF Russ Canzler from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for minor league pitcher Tim Alderson. Canzler is on the 40-man roster, and to make room the Pirates placed James McDonald on the 60-day DL. The Pirates have sent Canzler to Triple-A.
More to come.
Quinton Miller has been promoted to Altoona.
The Pirates have made the following minor league pitching moves, most likely as a chain reaction to the Duke Welker promotion.
**Tim Alderson has been promoted from Altoona to Indianapolis. Alderson has been with Indianapolis once already this year, and gave up one run in 3.2 innings of work. In his time with Altoona he had a 1.32 ERA...
Right-handed starter Tim Alderson has been placed on the Altoona disabled list with a right elbow injury. No word on the extent of the injury, although the move was retroactive to July 18th, which was one day after his last start.
Alderson gave up eight earned runs in 2.2 innings in that start, walking four and giving up seven hits. Prior to that start he had a nice three game stretch...
Jeff Locke started the first game of a double-header for the Tribe and gave up four runs (two earned) over five innings. He struck out three and walked two.
Jose Tabata was 0 for 3 in the first game and 1 for 3 with a walk in the second game. He scored the game winning run on a walk-off single by Yamaico Navarro in game two after leading off the eighth inning with a walk.
Everyone in action today.
Indianapolis 4, Buffalo 1 – Rick VandenHurk started and gave up 1 run over 5 innings. He struck out 3 and walked 3. Doug Slaten pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Bradenton got rained out and WV was off.
Lehigh Valley 4, Indianapolis 0 – Jeff Locke started and gave up 3 runs (2 earned) over 7 innings. He struck out 6 batters and walked just 1. Starling Marte was 1 for 4 with a double. Brandon Boggs went 1 for 3 and Jose Morales was 1 for 3 with a double.
Altoona 7, Bowie 3 – Tim Alderson started and gave up 3 runs over 5 innings...
Tim Williams reported today that RHP Tim Alderson was promoted from AA-Altoona to AAA-Indianapolis. Everyone knows Alderson as the highly regarded pitching prospect who was acquired in the Freddy Sanchez trade in 2009. At the time of the trade, Alderson was ranked as the #45 prospect in all of baseball.
There have been quite a few bumps in Alderson’s development since that trade...
