Being cool counts for a lot in MMA. With the IFL all but going under, I couldn't help but look into the coolness factor that makes or breaks an MMA business. If you want to succeed in the fight game, you must be cool. After you pass the minimum skill and fitness standards, it's all about the cool. Either you have to have an exciting fighting style that makes the crowd go bonkers, or you have to have the marketability.
The IFL had quality fighters who could put on good fights, but they didn't have any cool. The team concept was a little contrived, and guys like Chris Horodecki, Roy Nelson, Vladimir Katyushenko and Tim Kennedy are good fighters, no doubt, but they won't exactly induce the casual fan to tune in.
