As 3SS IT guy Alex Goldberg might say “Oy Vey.” It turns out that despite all the talk of Mirko Cro Cop being finished as a fighter, he might return to take on Ben Rothwell down under. Here’s MMA Weekly’s take. It appears that the question of whether or not Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic would retire following his dismantling at the hands of a much younger Junior dos Santos at UFC 103. MMAWeekly.com late Wednesday night learned from sources close to the bout that Filipovic will likely return to the Octagon at UFC 110 in Sydney, Australia, to face Ben Rothwell. The bout has not yet been signed. At 35 years of age, Filipovic (25-7-2) was manhandled in his UFC return in Dallas, where he verbally submitted under a barrage of punches from dos Santos in the third round. He contemplated his career following that bout, questioning whether or not he could get over a “mental block” when fighting in a cage. The greatest successes of his career coming in the Pride ring in Japan. Cro Cop looked real old when he fought Junior Dos Santos. I don’t think it was fighting in a cage that’s the problem as much as it is the fighting without any help from altered body chemistry. I’m just not so sure that he has anything left. Rothwell was dominated by prospect Cain Velasquez in his UFC debut. He would look likely be the favorite going into this fight. Even if he wants to stand and strike with Cro Cop, he’s younger, and faster than the Croatian.
