Kimbo Slice goes mainstream

CBS announced that it will broadcast MMA fights live on Saturday nights in 2008. It's a multi-year deal with four fights this year. Kimbo Slice is expected to headline the first event, which is slated for April 26.

MMA is about to go mainstream.

Roto Evil compiles:

1) What key people are saying about the deal

2) Three fighters who could be stars in 2008

It also includes six MMA YouTube videos, one of which I've included here. Meet Kevin Ferguson aka Kimbo Slice.

After watching this video, it seems like CBS is concerned about the perception of MMA in the mainstream. The video of Kimbo Slice makes him seem like a pretty normal guy who went through a rough period after hurricane Andrew hit Miami. He figured out how to survive by fighting. But, once he devastates someone's face on national TV, I'll be interested to see if CBS edits it out or if people react harshly. Probably not..

Is he going to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles?

Dr. John. Maybe they make Kimbo seem like that because he is. I have never seen a video of Kimbo that makes him look anything but a nice guy. Except for his fights.

that guy is a beast but i dig that
