Kimbo Slice to be featured on Next month's ESPN Magazine

Chuck Liddell has accumulated a 21-5 mixed martial arts record, and has held 5 successful title defenses at light heavyweight. Chuck has fought in the United States as well as overseas, and he's known for his athletic conditioning. He graced the cover ESPN magazine last year around this time.

Kimbo Slice has accumulated a 2-0 record against Bo Cantrell and Ray Mercer. He fought some people on the street, regular guys, and lost to Sean Gannon (1-1) in all MMA. He will now grace the cover of ESPN magazine......Does anyone else see the big difference here? How the hell did ESPN manage to lose their integrity and let a glorified street fighter earn the cover of their magazine?

Let this be a testament as to how powerful marketing and the internet really is to the perception of the general public. Tell me what you think....

Well it is al about selling magazines and Lidell is old news at this point.

I'm curious as to how Kimbo does in the next few fights. And I have to say one of the funniest things I have ever seen was some dude on the street getting paid $30 to let Kimbo tackle him while "going over the middle". Kimbo broke his ribs and they guy had no insurance. I will see if I can find the link and post it

true WJ, it is about selling mags, i've got an "advance issue" yeah the cover.....eeeeehh depending on what one thinks, it's ok!!!

Here is the video:

Good look out Dewey. My dumbass didnt know how to post a video until this morning

All good. We at Yardbarker could probably make it more clear for everyone. We're working every day to improve the Yard. Thanks for finding the video. I hadn't ever seen it before.

It's too bad but this is how marketing works. Anyone who is a true MMA fan knows that Kimbo deserves nothing. Not even a mention because he hasn't beat anyone! But this isn't how marketing works. He was fun to watch on youtube and now the general public, who knows nothing about MMA, likes him and cheers for him. That means it's time to market this man. He may turn out to be a good MMA fighter, but he hasn't earned any respect yet...but I think he will. In my mind he is just another Tank Abbott and people liked watching Tank fight. He either got rocked or he rocked someone else and that's pretty entertaining.

Wow ignorant. etg the general public cant know anything about MMA??? Good call. This is pretty much like that guy saying girls should not talk about football...

I think most people (even us girls ;-)) know that he hasn't proved anything in regards to MMA but he is intriguing - and that sells.

Amen. That's marketing and that's why he's on magazine covers....well that and youtube.

I'd really want to see a heavy weight fight between Chuck Liddell and Kimbo Slice, who do you guys think will take it? I personally think Chuck would pick him apart in no time.

and i think you're right john good call brotha

It's too bad Kimbo didn't start MMA when he was 22. Iwould have loved to have watched along career of his and watch him develop a great ground game to match his hard hitting stand up. I have a hard time really getting into a guy who is in his mid 30's. Well, I hope he does well in MMA, but I just don't ever see him mixing it up with top competition and winning, at least consistently. He is this era's Tank Abbott, or at least I think he will be. Tank fought good competition though, not washed up boxers. Well, I'm out for now. It's too bad the fans can't pick the fights they want to see and make them happen. By the time some fights actually happen, they are no longer the ones we want to see.

and tell me y kimbo doesnt deserve a spot in mma haha obvisly he has the heart and focus 2 b in it there is alot of trash tlk about kimbo but to come off the streets with no mma training i think would b a good accomplishment

i dont think people argue that he doesnt belong in MMA but people are saying he doesn't deserve the press and rep that he is getting, since he has not proved himself in MMA YET against an kind of real competition.
