PLAYERS: Miguel Torres
Been there, done that. Miguel Torres defeated contender Manny Tapia, who until tonight was undefeated. Torres retains the bantamweight WEC title. Straight down the pipe with the right hand in the second round. In the first round Torres tried some crazy axe-kick, which basically is a front flip designed with one thing in mind: the back of the heel coming down on your head, face or knee. Devastating if you can land it, which Torres nearly did. It was the MMA equivalent of attempting a half-cour...

Torres certainly is a dynamic fighter to watch, I was on the edge of my seat.

i was really impressed with tapia hangin in there for a little bit. i mean the first round was close with slight edge to torres, but there were some good exchanges. torres dominated the second round and really handed it to tapia. big ups to miguel, such an awesome fighter and beat tapia at his own game, after tapia said 'stand up with me and see what kind of champ you are' TORRES IS MY BOY

Yeah, I forgot to mention how Torres made it a point to keep the fight standing, despite the fact that he could have won more easily on the mat. Sometimes that sort of stubbornness means you're gonna lose (Shamrock vs. Le) but not when you're as good as Torres. What a beast.

SIDE NOTE: I hope the WEC doesn't move to PPV! Rumors are that it will in '09.

Versus will probably start replaying it in a few days. The rest of the card was pretty uneventful, but the Torres fight was entertaining. Tapia was scared out of his mind in the cage, and it looked like Torres could have been reading the newspaper. He is so calm and focused and ready to destroy... all 135 lbs. of him.

I love watching the light weights. I always forget to DVR the WEC fights. Atleast I got my MMA fix with the double episode of the Ultimate Fighter last night!

Nice write up bro. Torres is a beast at 135, and proves this every fight he takes. I actually seen a guy land one of those front flip kicks and landed it. Like you suggested, it was goodnight. Who will be able to stop this guy at 135? Only time will tell I guess.
