UFC Lightweight Anthony Pettis

It was reported during Tuesday’s edition of FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight” that lightweight contender Anthony Pettis (Pictured) will undergo an unknown operation that will keep the 25-year-old sidelined for up to eight weeks.

Although Pettis’ exact procedure is being held under lock and key, the need to take care of nagging injuries was credited for having to go under the knife. The former WEC champion is expected to back inside the Octagon later this summer.

“Showtime” is fresh off a vicious knockout victory over Joe Lauzon at UFC 144. Following last month’s highlight-reel kick, UFC president Dana White tentatively promised Pettis first dibs at Benson Henderson’s 155-pound title. When White decided to grant Frankie Edgar an immediate rematch against Bendo, it was rumored Pettis might drop to the featherweight division as it could offer a faster path towards a championship affair.

However, Pettis quickly killed that chatter last week by professing he wasn’t intending on shedding any weight and would one day don the UFC lightweight crown.

Pettis owns an impressive 15-2 professional record, with 12 of his wins coming via devastating finish. He’s rattled off two consecutive wins.
