UFC veterans Brandon Vera and Marcus Davis were both released by the UFC this week following losses at UFC 125 on January 1.

Both men have struggled in recent outings despite numerous successes throughout their UFC careers.

Vera appeared a total of 13 times inside the Octagon with a record of 7-6.  Debuting in the UFC heavyweight division, Vera dropped to light heavyweight in 2009 and won his first two fights at that weight.  However, his success was short-lived as he dropped his last three fights, including a unanimous decision loss to Randy Couture and a TKO loss to Jon Jones where he suffered a broken orbital bone in his right eye socket.

At UFC 125, Vera lost a unanimous decision to Thiago Silva, getting dominated on the ground and suffering a badly broken nose in the process.

Davis made his UFC debut in 2006 and won his first six bouts in the organization fighting in the welterweight division.  Despite notable victories over Paul Taylor and Chris Lytle, Davis went just 1-4 in his last five appearances including two knockout losses.

Davis made his debut in the lightweight division at UFC 125 against Jeremy Stephens.  Likely ahead on the scorecards heading to the third round, Stephens landed a brutal right hand mid-way through the round that put Davis away.
