The co-main event for UFC 122: Marquardt vs. Okami has just been dropped from the fight card. UFC officials have confirmed that an illness has forced Alessio Sakara out of the fight with Jorge Rivera.
It is an unfortunate turn of events. Sakara vs. Rivera was set up to be a Fight of the Night candidate with two guys who always come forward. The bout would have surely included fireworks, but Sakara’s health had other plans.
“Alessio Sakara was extremely sick tonight. Doctors tried to give him an IV but it didn’t work as a result the fight was called off. We’ve a fight in mind & will post it as soon as it’s confirmed. I apologize to everyone… I’ll make it up on the next one,” said Rivera.
Duane “Bang” Ludwig vs. Nick Osipczak has been promoted to the main card.
