UFC Heavyweight Cain Velasquez

Although Lorenzo Fertitta rarely makes an appearance on Twitter, his verified page was the place to be early Friday morning. The UFC co-owner not only confirmed the date of the heavyweight title scrap between champ Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem, but he also reported who would likely get first dibs at the winner.

Former champions Cain Velasquez (Pictured) and Frank Mir will collide to clarify the pecking order at the top of the 265-pound totem pole. Unfortunately for fight fans, a specific date for the shootout was not announced.

Velasquez is looking to bounce back after losing his hardware to dos Santos this past November. The 64 second knockout defeat is the only blemish on his résumé, a torrid run that included nine straight wins to start his career, seven of which took place inside Octagon.

Mir, on the other hand, will be riding a three-fight winning streak into the scrap. He was last seen snapping Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s right arm in two at UFC 140 in December.

The 32-year-old originally captured the UFC heavyweight crown in 2004 before a motorcycle accident forced him to vacate the strap. Mir also won an interim belt in December of 2008 before losing a title unification bout to Brock Lesnar seven months later.
