As expected, the trilogy between heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and former champ Junior dos Santos (both pictured) will in fact go down at UFC 166. Officials confirmed Friday morning that the much anticipated rubber match will headline the pay-per-view broadcast.
The October 19 event takes place inside Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
Velasquez solidified his status as the planet’s baddest 265-pounder by mauling Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva for the second time in 364 days at UFC 160. Dos Santos took center stage the bout prior and showcased his expanding repertoire by putting Mark Hunt to sleep with the impromptu highlight reel strike.
It took dos Santos all of 64 seconds to take Velasquez’s strap from him in their November 2011 encounter. Velasquez returned the favor by posting a lopsided unanimous decision victory in December to reclaim his throne.
Part III is one of the most anticipated heavyweight bouts in UFC history.
Here is the card’s current lineup:
Hector Lombard vs. Nate Marquardt
Diego Sanchez vs. Gilbert Melendez
Junior dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez (UFC heavyweight champion)
