by Michael David SmithFiled under: StrikeforceGina Carano may still be the face of women's MMA, but she's not the best female fighter in MMA. Cris Cyborg destroyed Carano in the main event of Saturday night's Strikeforce card, beating her throughout the first round and finally winning by TKO just before the round came to an end.Cris Cyborg TKOs Gina Carano in First Round of Strikeforce MMA Fight originally appeared on Fanhouse MMA Blog on Sun, 16 Aug 2009 00:07:00 EST . • I love you Gina but you were completely dominated from the weigh-ins. Cyborg was fighting for the entire country of Brasil....Gina never had a chance.
  • she better not of hurt that face.
  • Ive said it several times and I'll say it again.....Gina needs to develop her ground game. She obviously doesn't have any ground game skills. When a fighter stands up when she has her opponent mounted that is a definite sign that she has no confidence in her ground game. If you want to be the best you have to be well rounded. Look at GSP! He is the man! He studies jiu jitsu, kickboxing, muay thai, wrestling, and more! He is well rounded in all areas of fighting. That is why he is so hard to beat. He doesn't have many weaknesses. It was only a matter of time before a more aggressive well rounded fighter beat Carano. Love the gurl though. She has done alot for the sport, but hats off to Cyborg for being without a doubt the more aggressive well rounded fighter.
  • ground game or not.. if your gina.. there is no way you can train for wanderlei silva wearing a corn row wig.
  • Hahaha... not without a bat
  • Much love goes out to ya Gina, but you ran into a train with know brakes.
  • gina got screwed
  • it kinda turned me on to watch carano take a beating.........am i the only one!

  • agreed.. she lost before she entered the cage.
  • it was a great action packed fight, i loved it... as for gina, i don't think she was prepared for santos' power, that girl's got a punch. i've always trained with men, not very many women where i'm at that are interested in anything else but being gym bunnies, so i can tell you, as a woman, you rise to another level of intensity when you train with men. for a woman who train primarily with men, going up against a woman is like a glorified sparring session. i've really got to give it up to Cyborg, in my opinion she's given some serious legitmacy to female mma, she looked to be a little more complete a fighter, with a sound stand up game, decent ground and submissions, could work on take downs, but with a virocity that as been a long time coming in the womens division. way to go cyborg!!!!!!!

    ~*hands folded in respect*~
  • Well, I suppose we all knew Cyborg was going to destroy our American counterpart, Gina Carano. It is just that most of us hoped for a more American-friendly conclusion. My hat's off to Christiane Santos. I suppose I coudn't blame Gina for submitting like that. If I was getting cracked in the head by a man, it would hurt me, too. Believe me, Cyborg hits as hard as a man. The rematch should fair better for Gina, though. She'll have the butterflies out of the way. She'll also know Cyborg's strengths and some of her weaknesses. I want to see a rematch, so Carano can give a better showing of herself. She seemed to give in before the fight even got it's feet wet, and I didn't not like to view that. Not coming from Carano, but like I stated: get hit by a man and tell me it doesn't hurt. --rty
  • cyborg was stronger quicker incredibly more muscular.almost like a man against a woman?ginas layoff did not help.she didnt land any clean shots besides a couple jabs.didnt move laterally.cyborg comes staight forward..gota give her angles and movemnt,,,make her chase and tire
