Cung Le knocks out Rich Franklin at UFC: Macao Heading into their fight for the main event of UFC: Macao (also known as UFC on Fuel TV 6) both Rich Franklin and Cung Le said they would put on a show for the fans. And they certainly did.Saturday night, Le knocked out Franklin in the first round after a few minutes of striking that ended with an overhand right from the former Strikeforce champion that dropped the former UFC middleweight champion flat on his face.Afterwards, Le said that he “got lucky” which I thought was funny. Of course, it takes a bit of good luck to land a clean knockout punch just as it takes a bit of bad luck to get knocked out and end up face-down snoring into the canvas. But Le’s real luck came by Franklin choosing to stand and trade strikes with him instead of clinching, pushing Le into the octagon fence and wearing him out. Rather than force Le out of his comfort zone, Franklin tried to beat him at his own game and he paid the price. Why did he do it? Maybe he thought he could hang with Le in the realm of striking. Or maybe he was just trying to please the fans. Regardless, the loss dropped Franklin’s record to 5-5 in his last ten matches, stretching back to 2007.
