Anytime a 42-year-old comes out on the wrong end of an athletic competition, it’s natural to wonder if the veteran has played their last game. So after Dan Henderson (Pictured) dropped a split decision to Lyoto Machida at UFC 157, of course the former PrideFC and Strikeforce champion was questioned about his fighting future. No need to fret, Hendo fans. Despite losing his shot at the light heavyweight crown, Henderson claims he’s got plenty more gas left in the tank. In fact, the 17-year vet would like to return to action by the beginning of the summer. “I’m not done by any means,” Henderson professed following Saturday’s controversial defeat. “I still have goals I want to reach in this sport, and I want to fight as soon I can. I’m ready to go in June or July. “I didn’t have the best last few months, but I feel really a lot better and I want to be really active this next year.” Henderson didn’t specify why he’s had such a rough go over the past 90ish days. Nonetheless, one of the primary reasons Henderson isn’t prepared to hang up his mixed martial arts gloves is because he was THIS close to securing the top contender moniker. Actually, he believes next dibs should have been his. “In my mind, I thought I did enough to win the fight, but it was my fault,” Henderson admitted. “I don’t place the blame on the judges. I should have been more aggressive. I let [Machida] fight his fight a little too much.” Henderson’s professional record dropped to 29-9 following the defeat. The wrestler turned slugger has won seven of his past nine scraps. It was his first loss since Jake Shields beat him to retain the Strikeforce middleweight belt in April 2010.
