Dan "Hollywood" Henderson made a guest appearance at UFC 71 after Chuck Liddell and Quinton Rampage Jackson fought to announce that he has just been signed to fight for the light heavyweight title. Dan Henderson has two Pride belts, and is looking to add his third, the UFC light heavy weight title. Quinton Jackson and Dan Henderson have rich history with Pride Fighting Championship and are good friends. After Rampage's victory over Chuck Liddell, he will defend his belt against Dan Henderson. There was also speculation after tonight's fight whether or not Chuck will get a rematch for his belt. That's going to have to wait half a year since this fight is official.

  • Henderson is a kick ass fighter and a matchup against Rampage would be a very entertaining bout. My thinking, however, is that we'll see a rematch with Liddell first regardless of the postfight tonight. To paraphrase that great fight analyst P. Diddy "its all about the Benjamins" and right now the biggest money fight is a Liddell/Rampage rematch. IMO all of the buildup for Henderson on the show was to set up a strong next opponent for Liddell should he win. I think Zuffa learned their lesson when the potentially huge Couture/Cro Cop fight went up in smoke thanks to Gonzaga's left foot. I could be wrong, but I don't think they'll leave the money they could make from a rematch on the table. Were it any other fighter I don't think there'd be such a rush to a rematch but Liddell is such a cash cow for the UFC I'm thinking its just too potentially lucrative to pass up.
  • I guess in recent light on the subject they thought it'd be better to go a different route...that Henderson/ Rampage and Chuck / Silva on the same card would boast higher buys....i'd have to agree with that. I'd pay a lot of money for that PPV.
  • Yeah you're right, the rematch would generate a lot of revenue because for all the new mainstream fans coming to MMA, the two big names that's helped introduce them to MMA is Jackson and Liddell. The UFC has always been about generating revenue over making competitive or sensible match ups so i'm sure they'd give an immediate rematch, for example Hughes vs Gracie last year, Hughes was the top of the food chain in the welterweight division at the time, and Gracie was out of contention for so many years.....but it was one of their more successful PPV's.
