Eight months after revealing he’s been dealing with Meniere’s disease, UFC president Dana White (Pictured) is going under the knife Tuesday in Los Angeles to help increase his chances of living pain-free with the illness. “Taking off to LA for the surgery right now. I have it at 830am, PUMPED!!! Thank u all so much for the well wishes. Much appreciated,” White tweeted Monday. According to MayoClinic.com, “Meniere’s disease is a disorder of the inner ear that causes spontaneous episodes of vertigo — a sensation of a spinning motion — along with fluctuating hearing loss, ringing in the ear (tinnitus), and sometimes a feeling of fullness or pressure in your ear.” Approximately 50,000 to 100,000 people develop Meniere’s disease each year, mostly affecting those between 40 to 50 years of age. There is no cure for the disease, however treatment and procedures like what White is about to endure can help relieve symptoms and minimize its long-term effects. Meniere’s disease caused White to miss his first UFC event in 11 years this past May. Although White didn’t confirm he’ll skip Saturday’s “UFC on FX 6” show in Brazil, the 43-year-old is undergoing a very new and invasive procedure so it’s highly unlikely he’ll receive medical clearance to make the 16-hour trek to jiu jitsu country after today’s surgery.
