Nothing gets my blood boiling like a good Dana White Twitter bashing of the MMA media. We all know Dana is anti any MMA media that’s objective. Cover the UFC? Sure! Just don’t give us any bad press. Of course there are a million of well known MMA websites, two of the big dogs Sherdog.com and BloodyElbow.com constantly find themselves under fire from Dana White. Dana White often expresses his distaste with Sherdog. He routinely jerks their press credentials at his whim and he even went as far to openly say they were “on the take” when talking about their MMA rankings. Of course he lobbed this jab on the B.S. Report hosted by Bill Simmons on ESPN. Not so ironically Sherdog.com is an affiliate of ESPN.com.
In a recent interview with MMAJunkie.com Dana White had this to say:
“Everything that’s happened throughout the years, all the [expletive] that I’ve gone through, my biggest beef with a lot of these MMA websites is that these guys are for-profit websites. They’re not [expletive] news sites. They’re for-profit websites.”
Of course this is a totally nonsensical comment. Is CNN.com non profit? If it is why is there a Capital One Bank ad on the front page. What about Yahoo.com and even a website Dana White has better dealings with like MMAFighting.com. Does he think these guys do this for no money? It’s so beyond logical for a smart man to say.
Luke Thomas, Editor of Bloody Elbow, took offense to the above quote from White.
That is easily one of the dumbest things I have ever read. For as much as he knows about the fight business, that’s how little he understands about the business model of journalism.
Of course Dana White couldn’t resist and had this to say via Twitter.
@MMANation you shouldn’t even respond to this douche who doesn’t know **** about the sport. Mma nation? Wtf?
I continue to not get it. Dana White wants MMA to accepted as a mainstream sport, right along with the MLB, NBA, NFL ect. So why on earth does Dana White waste his valuable time attacking a website like Bloody Elbow or Sherdog. Why do we have to keep having this conversation? This isn’t the first, second, or even 400th time something like this has happened. Dana White doesn’t like what he hears so he calls a former marine, well respected journalist and radio show host a douche bag who doesn’t know anything about the sport.
Well Dana I respectfully have to disagree with you. It’s maddening and it makes my blood boil every single time this happens.
Though maybe I can learn something from the fine folk at Watch Kalib Run “Once I embraced this as a three ring circus it became a lot more fun. Also, my blood pressure is down.”‘
Sigh…I guess that’s where were at. We have to accept the UFC’s dealings with the media as a circus. Way to advance the sport Dana.
