Rafael Dos Anjos more than held his own in his two previous UFC fights but lost both to Jeremy Stephens and Tyson Griffin. Kicking off the night at UFC 103, Dos Anjos used the inside leg kick to crush Rob Emerson's lead leg. It left the California off-balance and weak in the final round when Dos Anjos finally scored an effective takedown (3-of-8 on takedown attempts) and sealed the unanimous decision (30-27 on all cards) over Emerson. The 24-year-old picked up his first win with the promotion. Emerson looked like a cinch early in the fight to take out Dos Anjos with punches. Dos Anjos has the bad habit of dropping his hands and leaving his exposed on the feet. But he made for that deficiency with a bevy of inside leg kicks (landed 23 in all) that had Emerson hesitant and punching from the distance from the middle of the first round on.
