After losing another championship fight via decision where he thought he had done enough to win, a disappointed Frankie Edgar (Pictured) said it was too soon to decide whether he’d return to the lightweight division where he recently held the title or remain in the featherweight class. Unfortunately (or fortunately) for “The Answer,” UFC president Dana White saw enough in Saturday’s defeat to 145-pound king Jose Aldo to determine lighter is righter for Edgar. In fact, White wouldn’t mind if the 31-year-old dropped an additional 10 pounds. “He’s not going to [155 pounds],” White flatly stated following the UFC 156 post-fight press conference. “That’s not going to happen. I like Frankie Edgar a lot as a person. Take away the whole fighting thing, I like him as a person, as a human being and I don’t ever want to see him at 155 pounds. The guys are too big and too strong at 155. “Yes, I know he was the champion. I know he beat legends and had close fights and everything else, but you can only fight so long in those types of wars with bigger, stronger guys. It’s not good.” Edgar has been competing, and let’s not forget succeeding, against larger opponents for most of his eight-year career. He forced the MMA world to realize BJ Penn, who is considered by many as the greatest lightweight to ever live, was past his prime in posting convincing back-to-back wins over “The Prodigy” to capture the crown. However, even when he stepped inside the cage with Aldo, Edgar didn’t physically appear any smaller than he has in previous outings. For that reason, White wouldn’t mind if the Jersey boy decided to dance at bantamweight. “I like that better,” White said of Edgar fighting in the 135-pound division. “The lower he goes, the happier I am. I don’t want him going any higher.”
