"He's strong, he's aggressive and he's not a very good free throw shooter"
- CBS NCAA Basketball commentator Clark Kellogg on UConn's Jeff Adrien
With every short and stocky college power forward trying to follow in the footsteps of Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez and become an NFL tight end, it's time to examine UConn senior Jeff Adrien's future prospects as a professional athlete.
Firstly, for all of his toughness and aggression, I don't think Adrien is a future NBA player. He just doesn't have the finesse - a lot of NBA power forwards are strong and tough. Even the upper echelons of Europe may not be possible, as the big men there are big, skilled and becoming increasingly aggressive. If he wants to play pro basketball, Latin America or Asia is Jeff Adrien's best bet.
Secondly, I don't think Adrien is an NFL tight end either. Nor is he a heavyweight MMA fighter. He just doesn't seem to have the coordination to cut it in those two sports.
However, I think Jeff Adrien, at 6-7, 243 lbs - will make an excellent leader of a soccer hooligan firm. From swinging his elbows after grabbing a rebound to getting into a scuffle under the basket with Michigan State's Travis Walton to the constant scowl on his face, Adrien was born to kick ass in the futbol hooligan brawls.
Oh, and as long as the choreographers don't ask for too much acrobatics from him, Jeff Adrien may have a shot at a career as a WWE wrestler.
