After producing a Fight of the Year candidate in Japan, Jorge Santiago has come back to the UFC for a 2nd go around. In his 1st UFC foray, he went 1-2. Santiago proceeded to win his next 9 matches, capturing the Sengoku middleweight title. While he lost in a nontitle match to Mamed Khalidov, he avenged the loss in the rematch with the title on the line. He then delivered his masterpiece with Kazuo Misaki, which was our pick for 2010’s Fight of the Year. In the last 4 years, he’s 11-1.
Santigao faces Brian Stann this Saturday in what should be a FOTN calibre bout. We put both Santiago and Stann in our top 10, and given the lack of contenders right now at middleweight, the winner of this match could be in a very favourable position as far as a title shot is concerned.
