During this week’s edition of FUEL TV’s UFC Tonight, UFC president Dana White confirmed reigning featherweight king Jose Aldo (Pictured) will defend his throne against Frankie Edgar on February 2nd at UFC 156. The duo were originally slated to collide in one of the most anticipated 145-pound affairs in mixed martial arts history until the leg Aldo injured in a motorcycle accident forced him to bow out of UFC 153. Ironically, Edgar was serving as a last-minute substitute for wounded Erik Koch in the October scrap. After losing his lightweight belt to Benson Henderson at UFC 144 and failing to recapture the strap in their August rematch, White made it clear Edgar wouldn’t get another crack at the 155-pound hardware for quite some time. That’s when “The Answer” begrudgingly decided to shed 10 pounds and transition to featherweight. Edgar is the only athlete in UFC history to compete in six consecutive title fights, with half of them being of the rematch variety. This scrap marks his seventh consecutive championship affair. “Scarface” will be riding a 14-fight winning streak into the shootout. Aldo was last seen posterizing Chad Mendes at UFC 142. The 25-year-old assassin is arguably the baddest featherweight to ever storm the MMA scene. The Super Bowl weekend scrap will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Either the Mandalay Bay Events Center or the larger MGM Grand Garden Arena will serve as host.
