Kalib Starnes is forever infamous. Seriously, ask Zak Woods who is making a living off of this guy being a foppish dandy. People still won’t forget about UFC 83 where he was embarrassed by Nate Quarry. It’s bad enough that Kalib is Canadian but then he literally danced around Quarry while Quarry was attacking him like Donald Duck…IN…HIS…HOMETOWN! Yes, the Canadian crowd booed the Canadian fighter and cheered for the American entertainer. I’m sure you know all of this, but for those of you who don’t that’s the gist of it.
He was cut from UFC and he never really gave a solid excuse as to why he wasn’t engaging Quarry after losing convincingly in a unanimous decision that would eventually go to Quarry. Starnes will most likely join Paul Daley and Kimbo Slice on the “Blacklisted for Life” list that Dana White etches into concrete and steel daily. If you don’t know Quarry beyond this fight, don’t worry, Hunter Jones has him pegged as a “legend” already.
Well back to the point, Starnes is still fighting. I know, it’s weird and no one cares but I’ve been feeling like the white knight lately and I want to give the guy some props. I don’t know how he just won a title after losing a title match [literally] the fight before (via Ezekiel Choke, which from what I hear is kind of like the Cleveland Steamer), but good for him. He beat Nick Hinchcliffe for the middleweight title via armbar in the 1st round.
This has been his 5th fight since the infamous Quarry fight. His first loss after that fight, he was submitted via punches. So yeah, tapping to strikes is pretty sissyish but he could be on the rebound. Good for him on winning the belt. Video is over at Cagepotato. Apparently, people are still jeering at him, but the best way to beat boos is dazzle them with your talent! Keep your head up Starnes! Maybe try track and field where they actually CHEER you for running?
