Kenny Florian (Pictured) made a reputation for finishing fights during his nine-year mixed martial arts career. On Thursday afternoon, the UFC star announced his fighting days were officially finished.
The 36-year-old hurt his back in November and hasn’t been able to get his body back to where he wants it to be.
“I’ve dealt with injuries in the past,” Florian stated. “Back in November, I hurt my back working out and it just hasn’t been quite the same. I’ve been dealing with it, been trying to get back and doing rehab and a few weeks ago re-injured it again.
“It’s been tough. I haven’t been able to train. I’ve always been that person, I don’t want to do anything half-ass. If I’m gonna train for a fight and if I’m going to be doing what I’m doing, I want to be 100 percent.”
Florian hangs up his MMA gloves with a 14-6 professional record, with 12 of his wins coming by way of devastating finish. “The Ultimate Fighter 1″ runner-up fought for a UFC title on three occasions and came up empty on each attempt.
He’s the only athlete to compete in four different weight classes inside the Octagon. The Bostonian’s last professional scrap goes down as a unanimous decision defeat to featherweight champ Jose Aldo at UFC 136.
“KenFlo” won’t be standing in the unemployment line anytime soon. He’s currently the co-host of FUEL TV’s weekly “UFC Tonight” show and is a part of nearly every pre- and post-fight UFC show on the network.
