M1 Global Poster Fedor Monson

Breakfast with Fedor, anyone? While the entire mixed martial arts world was still buzzing over the spectacular show Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua put at UFC 139 on Saturday, Fedor Emelianenko made his anticipated return to action halfway across the globe against Jeff Monson on Sunday morning.

To the surprise of nearly nobody, Emelianenko was able to snap his three-fight losing skid against his strategically picked opponent. Although Emelianenko didn’t post a devastating finish over Monson, he did drop “The Snowman” on multiple occasions, including three separate times in the middle stanza with single strikes.

However, unlike with in his defeats in Strikeforce, Emelianenko wasn’t overzealous with his attack and didn’t follow his dazed foe to the canvas. At the end of the day, “The Last Emperor” utilized his significant reach advantage to win what turned out to be a kickboxing bout.

Following the fight, Emelianenko’s longtime manager, Vadim Finkelstein, hinted that his meal ticket could meet Satoshi Ishii at Dream’s end of the year extravaganza in Japan.

“M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Monson” took place inside the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia. The pay-per-view broadcast came with a $29.95 price tag.

Here are the results from this morning’s show:
