Well I guess we know now why Nick Diaz/Carlos Condit II wasn’t so quick to be signed.
In the event you missed it, Diaz was busted for marijuana following UFC 143 and now sits in a state of limbo. So, too, does Condit, the UFC, and the welterweight division of the promotion.
It’s a real pickle, and it’s a result of Nick Diaz being Nick Diaz. He’s been open about his marijuana use for years, so much so that you can pretty easily find videos on YouTube of Diaz enjoying it, and he was actually popped after his barn-burner with Takanori Gomi at PRIDE 33.
Still, it’s part of the mystique of Diaz. He does things his own way and makes no apologies for it, and it’s fascinating. It creates unfortunate circumstances a lot of the time, as it has here, but it’s part of what draws people to love or hate Stockton’s fighting son.
Diaz the prizefighter is the ultimate yin and yang, an interesting balance of good and bad. Put him in the cage or ring and he’ll fight anyone. Not try to score points...
