Found September 01, 2010 on The 3rd String Safety:

1) Frankie Edgar

2) Gilbert Melendez

3) Eddie Alvarez

4) Gray Maynard

5) BJ Penn

6) Evan Dunahm

7) George Sotiropoulos

8 ) Kenny Florian

9)  Shinya Aoki

10) Benson Henderson

Flame On: Since these rankings are sure to draw some ire let me explain myself.  While Aoki has an impressive 24-5 record his fight against Melendez exposed him for what he is. Aoki is a one trick pony, who, if he can’t take down his opponent (or if his opponent refuses to jump into his guard) has absolutely no other path to victory. How is he beating any of the guys ranked above him on the list? And sorry JMMA fans Karajiri isn’t ranked for similar reasons. If you want to be top 10 come stateside, it’s that simple.

The hardest person to rank was Penn. Can he beat anyone on this list? Absolutely. However until we see where his career is headed it’s impossible to tell what his next step is.

Honorable Mention: Jim Miller, Tatsuya Kawarjiri, Gesias Cavalcante, Takanori Gomi, Tyson Griffin
Prospect Watch: Lyle Beerbohm, Efrain Escurdero, Ross Pearson, Charles Oliveria
