Nate Marquardt was abruptly fired from the UFC on June 25 (barely before weigh-ins for an event he was to headline), and more information has been trickling out since then. Unfortunately, virtually all the news is putting Marquardt in a bad light. While many questioned Dana White firing Marquardt so quickly, opinion seems to have decidedly shifted to unsympathy. There are still many unresolved questions, and the issue does not appear to be simply fading away like what happened with Shane Carwin.
Marquardt did not apply for an exemption from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission. This goes against everything that was simply assumed. If Marquardt never applied for the TUE, then why did the PSAC seem prepared to let him fight if his testosterone levels had dropped to normal? Additionally, the doctor involved in Marquardt’s issue was not USADA approved and had been flagged in New Jersey.
