UFC middleweight Nate Quarry has undergone facial reconstruction, including receiving 13 screws in his face to repair injuries suffered in his March 31 second-round TKO loss to Jorge Rivera at UFC Fight Night 21.
“Got screwed in the face 13 times yesterday! Yep, facial reconstruction surgery. Good times,” Quarry posted on Facebook. “My cheekbones were broken loose and had to be screwed down to keep them in place. Then a mesh made from titanium is laid down with some bone growth material over the top of it. That accelerates the whole healing process. Screws will be permanent. As is the titanium mesh they laid down.”
The surgery will indefinitely sideline Quarry (12-4), who previously scored back-to-back wins over Jason MacDonald and Tim Credeur and won 4 of his first 5 fights since returning to the UFC in 2007 after undergoing major back surgery.
