Tuesday’s UFC 157 conference call was rather uneventful until Ronda Rousey (Pictured) decided to coin a new word: “Cryborg.” The outspoken Rousey used the term to describe bitter rival Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and her perceived crybaby ways. The tension picked up when Rousey was asked about Cyborg’s recent request to be released from the UFC. Cyborg’s manager, Tito Ortiz, appeared on Inside MMA last Friday claiming the former Strikeforce featherweight champ has no choice since it’s “impossible” for his client to shed the excess 10 pounds required to compete at bantamweight, the UFC’s lone women’s division. Too bad, so sad says the “Rowdy” one. “No, not really at all,” Rousey responded when asked if she’d be disappointed if the UFC cut Cyborg. “I think she’s just kind of making a lot of noise, trying to get attention because she’s kind of fading into being irrelevant. She hasn’t had a recorded win in around what, two years or something like that? So she needs to have people going on TV and making a big fuss so people would even remember her name. “And to be honest, I have a lot of options ahead of me. I have a lot of girls that I could fight. She doesn’t really have any options besides me. So they can run around and make a bunch of noise and be a big ‘Cryborg’ as much as she wants, but at some point, she’s going to have to come around and take the only fight that is available for her. And in the meantime, I’m gonna take the 20 options that are available to me.” Rousey’s first opponent lies in Liz Carmouche. The ladies meet February 23rd at UFC 157. The scrap marks the only time women have headlined an Octagon event. Meanwhile, Ortiz will hold a press conference this Friday to discuss Cyborg’s future.
