After getting publicly challenged by BJ Penn to undergo voluntary drug testing leading up to their December 8th shootout, up-and-comer Rory MacDonald (Pictured) had no qualms with allowing VADA to conduct random screenings. However, now that the pop quizzes have begun, MacDonald wasn’t too pleased with the rude awakening he received to kick off the festivities. “It already started,” MacDonald said during Monday’s debut of FUEL TV’s Training Day. “My first test was last week. I got a random knock on the door. They did the test. So from here to the fight, it’s just random testing. “It’s pretty annoying. I don’t like getting waken up in the morning. It threw my routine off. I didn’t expect it. I kinda forget about it, to tell you the truth. It was a bit annoying that day, but if it only happens a couple times, a few times, I can deal with it.” On the bright side for MacDonald, Penn is subject to the same inconveniences. VADA is a nonprofit organization working with several fighters to help clean up the sport of mixed martial arts. UFC president Dana White has neither endorsed nor discredited VADA. He has taken a that’s-up-to-the-fighters stance regarding the program. MacDonald and Penn collide at “UFC on FOX: Henderson vs. Diaz” in Seattle. VADA will submit the results from their tests to Washington Professional Athletics Program, the Association of Boxing Commissions and the UFC.
