The amiable Griffin - whose endearing self deprecation, bone-dry wit and brawling style, have brought broad popularity - was cruelly exposed by the technique, speed and brilliance of Anderson Silva.
It made for 3 minutes and 23 seconds of uncomfortably, spectacular viewing.
The size difference upon which many had placed emphasis, showed in speed rather than strength. Whilst Silva danced elusively with his hands lowered and head weaving, Griffin lumbered impotently, over-extending and exposing himself to the Brazilian‘s pinpoint striking.
If Griffin had a game plan; it was the wrong one.
