UFC Light Heavyweight fighter and "The Ultimate Fighter 3" alum Matt Hamill has decided to retire from MMA competition following his second consecutive defeat this past Saturday at UFC 133. Hamill was finished in the second round by rising star Alexander Gustafsson via TKO in the night's feature preliminary bout on SPIKE TV.Hamill also dropped a lopsided decision to number one contender Rampage Jackson at UFC 130. Hamill said that the reason for the sudden retirement was because his body just couldn't take the pain anymore. Here's a little bit more of his reasoning..
"I was ready to make this decision after my loss at UFC 130. My friends, family, coaches, and my daughter all encouraged me to give it one more shot. My career has been plagued by injuries, ever since "The Ultimate Fighter."
One can imagine just how good Hamill could have been had he been fully healthy throughout his entire fighting career. It looks like we'll never know, but we have to commend Hamill on defying the odds throughout his entire competitive career. Hamill was born deaf and still went on to become a three time Division III collegiate wrestling champion along with making it into the UFC.
And for that we thank you, Matt Hamill.
