A recent article written by Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports argued that Stephan Bonnar should be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. Stephan Bonnar was instrumental in bringing the UFC back from the brink of financial ruin, but Stephan Bonnar should not be inducted into any Hall of Fame. To do so would destroy the credibility of sports Halls of Fame, which are already subject to a great deal of ridicule.
Let’s put things into perspective here: Stephan Bonnar has a 7-6 record in the UFC. Forrest Griffin is the other half of the fight that made the UFC, and it’s clear that Griffin has surpassed Bonnar in terms of skill. Griffin has proven to be good enough to fight for championships. Bonnar rematched Griffin in 2006 and it was clear that Bonnar had not improved as much as Griffin. Being 7-6 won’t get you into title contention, much less warrant Hall of Fame status.
