The powerful wrestling based then 27-year-old Bay Area native was riding a 4-fight winning streak with the Strikeforce promotion, with all four wins ending via first round stoppage. He was looking purhaps a big fight against a Scott Smith or someone of that caliber when he injured his knee in training. The setback came when just before Strikeforce signed a deal with Showtime and by the time he had rehabbed his knee Lawson found himself back at the end of the line. He took a fight against Wayne Philips last February where he suffered another injury, this time to his elbow, along with a loss to boot. After returning to action in the fall Lawson suffered a third injury when he cracked his rib in training. pushing his fight with Ron Keslar from October of 2010 to tonight.
