Stefan Struve isn’t the only one who broke something on Saturday night at UFC on FUEL TV 8. Lightweight Takanori Gomi revealed he fractured his right hand at some point during the opening round of his highly controversial defeat to Diego Sanchez.
As customary with most wounds suffered inside the Octagon, Gomi posted a picture of his X-ray on his official blog for the entire MMA world to enjoy.
Despite working with only one haymaker for much of their 15-minute affair, Gomi powered through and appeared to do more than enough to get his broken hand raised in victory.
Gomi landed more significant strikes and total strikes in all three rounds than “The Dream,” but the hometown boy was homered for a split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) loss.
“How the f*** did Diego win that fight!? Crazy s***,” UFC president Dana White tweeted immediately after the verdict was rendered.
UFC on FUEL TV 8 took place Saturday inside Saitama Super Arena in Japan.

In what is now regarded as one of the most controversial decisions in recent memory, Diego Sanchez defeated Takanori Gomi via split decision in their UFC on Fuel TV 8 feature fight. The former Pride lightweight champion controlled the fight and clearly put on a better performance that his counterpart yet suffered a frustrating (and baffling) loss to Sanchez.

What’s better than beating one Diaz brother? Well, taking down both of them, of course.
Moments after ending his 11-month Octagon hiatus to take a highly controversial split decision win over Takanori Gomi on Saturday at UFC on FUEL TV 8, Diego Sanchez (pictured) publicly requested his next tango.
“The fight I want is Nate Diaz,” Sanchez told FUEL TV’s post-fight show of...
"The fight I want right now he has a fight lined up, but the fight I want is Nate Diaz. I want to be the first one to say, ‘I beat both the Diaz brothers.' And I got the bigger brother on the resume already, so I want to go in there and get the little brother and we make – our styles make for an awesome, awesome fight. Ground battles — it's just a great fight and...
Stefan Struve was more than a 2-to-1 odds-on favorite to beat veteran Mark Hunt (pictured) on Saturday night. A win would have propelled “Skyscraper” into the upper echelon of the UFC heavyweight division.
For some peculiar reason, Struve didn’t want to use his significant reach advantage by executing jabs and kicks. Instead, the 25-year-old decided to block Hunt’s fists...
Stefan Struve had his jaw broken in his UFC on Fuel TV fight Sunday in Japan, and he seems to be in pretty good spirits despite the injury.
The Dutch 7-footer lost to Mark Hunt by third-round TKO. After the fight, he tweeted that he wanted the referee, Herb Dean, to remove his tooth from his cheek so he could continue fighting. That plan quickly was abandoned after he realized his...
