Eddie Alvarez (Pictured) is a wanted man. Unfortunately for the free agent, he’s being recruited by one too many MMA promotions, one of which is his most recent employer who is dragging out contract negotiations. Alvarez completed his contractual obligations with Bellator Fighting Championships after posterizing Patricky Freire in October. However, the fine print at the bottom of his contract allows Bellator to match any offer that comes cross Alvarez’s table in order to retain the lightweight. If this were the NBA, Alvarez would be considered a restricted free agent. It has been reported the UFC has already faxed their offer sheet for Alvarez to Bellator, who is currently crunching the numbers to see if keeping the 28-year-old makes sense. However, this negotiating period isn’t as clean cut as one would expect for it to be. If you were to ask UFC president Dana White – which we did following Thursday’s press conference in Las Vegas, but for legal reasons he needed to remain tight-lipped – it’s getting downright dirty. “I just don’t know if I can talk about it,” White stated. “It’s going to get ugly. “I don’t know if I can talk about it. If I could talk about it, I would. I think it’s going to get ugly.” White and UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta have publicly courted Alvarez over the past several months. They recently nabbed Bellator middleweight champ Hector Lombard from their stateside rival. Alvarez owns an impressive 24-3 professional record, with his last 10 fights coming under Bellator’s watch. The veteran posted a 9-1 mark there en route to winning and losing the lightweight title.
