UFC Light Heavyweight Tito Ortiz

The UFC takes a lot of pride in providing fights that the fans want to see. Sometimes, they take heat for arranging scraps nobody wants to witness.

The latter appears to be the case after UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta announced the organization is planning Tito Ortiz (Pictured) vs. Forrest Griffin III for later this summer.

The former light heavyweight champions initially met at UFC 59 in April of 2006. Ortiz took home a controversial split decision victory after leaving the organization for 14 months over a contract dispute.

The rematch went down in November 2009 at UFC 106. That time, it was Griffin’s turn to win a split decision verdict.

Ortiz is just 1-6-1 over his past eight scraps, with a July 2011 upset special over Ryan Bader bringing about a brief resurgence. However, subsequent losses to Rashad Evans and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira once again has his career in jeopardy.

This bout marks the final fight on his current UFC contract. Win, lose or draw, it will likely be the 37-year-old’s final inside the Octagon.

Griffin has dropped three of his last four contests. “The Ultimate Fighter 1″ winner was last seen getting put to sleep by Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 134.
