Welterweight Rousimar Palhares (pictured) took just 31 seconds to submit Mike Pierce on Wednesday at UFC Night Night 29. Unfortunately for the jiu jitsu specialist, it marks the last time he will ever set foot inside the Octagon. On Thursday, ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap, who is hosting “Olbermann” this week on the network, said UFC president Dana White has banned Palhares from the UFC for seemingly intentionally cranking on Pierce’s ankle a couple extra ticks after he surrendered and the referee came crashing in to stop the fight. “@danawhite tells me on @ESPNOlbermann that Rousimar Palhares is banned. won’t ever fight for UFC again…” Schaap posted on his Twitter account. As expected, Palhares adamantly denied any wrongdoing earlier today. “I never meant to hurt anyone, as a jiu-jitsu fighter I always seek for the submission, but I would never be evil to any athlete,” Palhares tweeted in his own defense. “I always respect the @UFC decisions, but most of most I respect a lot Mike Pierce, so again I never meant to hurt him, just finish the fight.” However, White and the UFC aren’t buying what the Brazilian is selling. On replay, it is clear “Toquinho” continued to twist when Piece had already cried uncle. The promotion expressed their displeasure with Palhares’ actions immediately after his win by denying him a $50,000 “Submission of the Night” bonus check. He was the only fighter to score a submission victory last night. Palhares owns a 15-5 professional record, with 11 of his wins coming by way of submission. Yesterday marked the longtime middleweight’s welterweight debut. Catch White’s interview on the show tonight on ESPN at 11PM ET/8PM PT.

Rousimar Palhares Releases A Statement About His Controversial Fight Against Mike Pierce

What do you all think? Should he ever be able to step foot in the octagon again? Alan...

Dana White on Rousimar Palhares' UFC career: "He's Done"

Playing on the ground with Rousimar Palhares is never a good gameplan. Last night in Brazil, Mike Pierce took his chances, and ended up as another statistic. Bellator Passes on Rousimar Palhares

Sure, Bellator MMA might have gobbled up several former UFC fighters – including two past their prime prior light heavyweight champions in Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Tito Ortiz, a habitual marijuana smoker who can’t decide if he wants to retire or not in Matt Riddle and a testosterone abuser in Lavar Johnson – but they want nothing to do with Rousimar Palhares (pictured...

UFC Fight Night 29: Rousimar Palhares Controversially Submits Mike Pierce (Video)

It took Rousimar Palhares (pictured) all of 31 seconds to tap Mike Pierce on Wednesday at UFC Fight Night 29. It took Palhares about two extra seconds after that to lose out on $50,000 for “Submission of the Night.” Palhares targeted Pierce’s left leg from the jump and it didn’t take the jiu jitsu specialist long to get his clamps on it. Once he did, it was pretty much a...

This is what happens when you hold onto a submission for too long not once, twice, but three or four times in your UFC career. It’s unacceptable, and Dana White agrees.
