This Saturday marks UFC’s 25th “Fight Night” event, which is being held in New Orleans, Louisiana. The main bout is a Welterweight fight between former Strikeforce champion Jake Shields and highly competitive star Jake Ellenberger. Sparks are sure to fly when these two touch gloves in the Octagon.
Jake Shields has already had a very successful mixed martial arts career and looks to improve his legacy with an eventual UFC belt. The former Strikeforce champ was granted his opportunity at greatness this past April, but unfortunately fell to Georges St. Pierre. Jake will be looking for an impressive victory to put him back on track for another title shot. Disappointed with his opponent, Shields has had no problem publically stating how under qualified Ellenberger is for him. What Shields may not have realized is that Ellenberger is currently on a 4-fight win streak and his only UFC blemish was in his debut against top Welterweight contender Carlos Condit. Ellenberger is a finisher and Shields would be stupid to underestimate his opponent. With that in mind, I still have my money on Shields.
There are three other fights on the main card of this free event. Middleweights Alan Belcher and Jason MacDonald will meet and promise to excite. Belcher is a fan favorite and always impresses his audience. I predict Belcher to win with an early finish. Next, Featherweights Jonathon Brookins and Eric Koch both look to live up to the early hype surrounding their names. Brookins is the most recent Ultimate Fighter winner and Koch is coming off a Knockout of the Night performance in his UFC debut. Both these guys are young and have a lot to prove so I can’t wait to see what they bring. I got Koch with another knockout victory. Court McGee and Dong Yi Yang complete the main card. These Middleweights are both coming off victories and McGee too is an Ultimate Fighter winner, wanting nothing more than to live up to the potential fight fans saw in him. McGee with the decision.
With four great fights at hand, there are no excuses not to watch free UFC fights. This Saturday it’s going down and you do not want to miss it.
