UFC middleweight fighter Brian Stann, a top ten fighter in the middleweight division, has done some announcing as part of UFC's contract with Fox. Stann hasn't done play-by-play or color, but he has been featured on the fight analysis portions of the shows that take place before, during, and after the fights. Stann wrote a blog for Yahoo! Sports about his announcing experience so far, and it's an insightful read worth checking out from a relative newbie to the industry.

Stann's thoughts on his announcing position? Well, he thinks it's fun, is thrilled at the opportunity to praise and discusss talented fighters that he's become friends with, and it's also made him a bigger fan of MMA as a sport. Stann, still an active UFC fighter, also discussed the challenges in saying the right thing about a fighter's performance without insulting him, a trait that many broadcasters could learn a lesson from.

He also discusses how the Fox crew doesn't push Stann to be controversial or to stir anything up, and instead just focuses on analysis of the fighters, and a pick for the winner if Stann wants to. Stann also said that the commentating job is easy, he has no nerves doing it, and that it's a dream job.

Stann isn't a bad commentator by any means, and it's good to see that Fox and the UFC are being more proactive in bringing in current fighters as analysts, since it has worked with relative success in other sports.
